We have a petition, directed at

Amnesty International's Regional Director for West and Central Africa and Executive Director in Burkina Faso.

PROBLEM

In Burkina Faso, many girls do not have access to quality education. We feel it is our right for all community members to be given the opportunity to attend and complete school. Only one percent of girls complete secondary school.

The big problem is that parents do not value girls' education. Some families are too poor, so they send the oldest male child to school. The family marries the girls off to someone richer to benefit the family. Most see marriage as the only or best way to benefit their child. Girls are typically married before the age of eighteen. Some feel pressured to marry while other girls are forced through means of violence or banishment.

We want to help by raising awareness of the situation. We have created a blog that addresses the issue. If possible, we would like to raise money to help in any way possible. We intend to give the money to the Amnesty International so they could help the girls and families. We are also asking that you help us try to change the laws.
